Multimodal Response 7: Transmodality and Working Across Modes

In today's text, Kate Artz, Danah Hashem, and Anne Mooney use multiple pieces of media to explore the concept of transmodality.

First, take some time to break down transmodality in your own words. What is it, and why is it important? How does transmodality relate to remediation? Artz, Hashem, and Mooney titled their piece "Transmodality in Action." Do you think they effectively put transmodality into action? Why or why not? How does their approach compare to the other more alphabetic academic pieces that we've read this semester?

Secondly, reflect on how you might apply the concept of transmodality to the slice of your second major project. You can choose to either put this transmodal transformation into action, partially or fully, or just talk about what you might do. If you were transforming the slice into another form of media, focusing on different modes, what might change? What would you need to adapt in order to compose effectively in that mode, going beyond the "Google translate" approach that the authors critique?

Finally, the authors discuss diverse audiences and access as they relate to transmodality. How might your transformation change the accessibility of your project for audiences with different backgrounds and abilities?
