Week of 11/3-11/5: Election Day, No Class

There's no synchronous class meeting this week because of Election Day.

Brief plug: If you can vote in the United States and haven't yet, please do! It's important not only in determining the results of the election up and down the ballot, but also in making sure that the interests of your generation are represented in local, state-level, and federal platforms. Go to iwillvote.com to find your polling place, drop-off boxes for absentee ballots, and information on mail-in voting. If you're voting absentee in Illinois, your ballot needs to be in a drop-off box by November 3 at 7pm to be counted, or postmarked November 3 at the latest. Vote early if you can to be sure your vote is counted!

I only have one thing assigned for this week in terms of weekly work, an in-class writing related to this week's reading, "Multimodality in Motion" by Yergeau et al. For the reading, everyone should read the sections “Over There” & “Over Here," and choose one of the other sections (Space, Mode, Community, Reason, Ableism) to read closely. Make sure to click “next” at the bottom of the page as there is more than one page in each section! Then, once you've completed the reading, respond to the following in-class writing prompt in your Google Doc, AND add your response to this forum thread.

In-Class Writing

First, summarize the section that you choose in about 4-5 sentences (Space, Mode, Community, Reason, or Ableism).

Then, explain how you would apply the concepts from the reading to your final portfolio design, as well as your creations and designs beyond the course. How might you account for disabilities, neurodiversity, and access in your work? In your field?

Add your response to the Google Doc and the forum by Sunday, November 8 at 10pm. If you still need multimodal experiment options, Multimodal Experiment 8 builds on this in-class writing and the reading.

Other than that, use this week to revise your major projects and work towards your final portfolio. I also recommend taking a look toward Project 3, as we'll be diving into that and our final unit next week.
